Connecting to country / two-way learning

Dreaming Australia is a community initiative by a group of senior elders and holders of story and song for Central Australia. We believe we must preserve our law, language and identity, and we must integrate with the technology and ideas of the modern world by finding culturally appropriate ways of moving forward together.

To share ancient knowledge of the land in exchange to learn the skills required to develop in the modern world in a way that is sustainable and self-determined.

The focus of our work is self-activation and community building through art and practical sciences. We bring motivated artists, educators, and business people into the community.

A generation of young people who will become the cultural ambassadors of a new dreaming — a Dreaming Australia of indigenous, non-indigenous and multicultural Australia.
Dreaming Australia began in Central Australia on remote homeland communities and has since grown in scale — linking to the East Coast centres and internationally. We have conducted outreach from Central Australia into non-indigenous communities through partnership with local Aboriginal story holders.

Linking Central Australia to the world — our partnership with China has taken the story of the dreaming to international festivals, cultural exchanges, and ceremonial events.
